    About the leaders: Attendees of our Spring Growers Meeting will be familiar with Tom Saielli, Mid-Atlantic TACF Coordinator. Tom is developing hiking opportunities in the four states he oversees (WV, VA, MD and KY) to highlight the Range-Wide Search for Surviving Chestnuts that TACF has kicked off this year. West Virginia member, Adam Polinski, who is also a member of the Coopers Rock Foundation, knows of a number of American chestnuts at Coopers Rock State Forest (Preston County, WV).

  • Burlington County Earth Fair

    About this event: Burlington County's Annual Earth Fair returns each year to Historic Smithville Park featuring vendors, entertainment for all ages, and kids’ activities with an environmental twist. This family event focuses on ways to protect and enjoy our environment. Children's activities will include trash sculpting, paper making, storytelling, environmental vaudeville, face painting…and more. Be sure to check out the art exhibits in the Worker’s House & Gallery and the Smithville Mansion Annex Gallery. There will be “Green” vendors, artists, crafters, activity providers and performers that have an earth-friendly theme.

  • Allegheny County Parks: North Park- Restoring the American Chestnut- 7672

    Description:

    Participants will learn the history of the American Chestnut, its' importance to wildlife. Each participant will pick a Mother tree and pollen tree to produce their own chestnut burr of nuts. They can return in mid-September to harvest the burr.

    The J.C. Stone Field Parking Lot is located in North Park, part of the Allegheny County Parks, just north of Pittsburgh, PA. See attached.

  • Festival of Wood - Grey Towers

    Description:

    Help represent our Chapter at this two-day family event focused on environmental education at historic Grey Towers -- the summer retreat of Gifford Pinchot, two-time Governor and the first Chief of the US Forest Service.

    Volunteer for a couple hours to share your knowledge and interest in the American chestnut. Our display provides a helpful visual aid for sharing the whole story including its: life, death, and birth. We will also provide volunteers with educational handouts, membership information and pencils and stickers for the kids.?
