A Perfect Day for a Fall Member Meeting – Slide Show
Many thanks to our guest speakers and everyone who made 2016 Fall Member meeting possible. Attendees really enjoyed Gary Gilmore, Forester with DCNR, presentation and demonstration on biochar. The heat was hot enough to roast chestnuts, and we did! David Crowl shared the inspirational story of how abandoned mining lands in Schuylkill County have been redeveloped for recreational pleasure and economic growth; and how the American chestnut has played a role. The Anthracite Outdoor Adventure Area is a great example of how damaged lands can be repurposed. Lastly, two of our long-time members shared their passions with the group. Chris Ditlow spoke on his experience as a woodworker using American chestnut and Jim Walizer spoke about his citizen scientist research on his farm in Central PA.
Special thanks, is to due to our friends at the Weiser Forest District Office — Marty Marynowych and Hope Reser. They were there when we arrived and throughout the day to make sure things run smoothly. Marty also lead the tour of the TACF Orchard across the road.
As always, Susan Smith was a rock at registration and sales — many thanks to this sweet woman. And lastly, Blair and Mary Carbaugh treated us all to coffee and donuts, as well as lending a big hand to our meeting prep and clean up.
